Cambio de Colores Conference Discussion

The Hispanic population in the metro Kansas City area is growing at an alarming rate. There continues to be a very high drop out rate among this population, as well as the entire district. Many of the educational needs of this population are not being met. The LULAC National Educational Center works year round trying to impact Hispanic youth and lower the drop out rate among Latinos. It is necessary to make a long-term commitment with our youth and implement long-term strategies that carry through a student’s educational journey. We can no longer wait until Middle and High School to impact our students in making educational goals. The journey begins in the early educational years and must include a commitment from the parents, schools and community.
